Whatever new house we get, I just know that it will have an expanse of hard flooring that I will need help cleaning both expeditiously and sanitar-i-ly. I used to have the first Hoover Floormate, and had since seriously considered getting the newer Hoover Spinscrub Floormate but then I remember how much of a pain in the A it was to go over and over the floor just to pick up the sprayed cleaning solution and then you have to deal with emptying the dirty tank and cleaning it and the filter. Pretty grody job when it's all wet.
So I have reconsidered and think I'll be opting instead for the Bissell Steam Mop. It should do just about the same job but w/o cleaning solution and a dirty water tank. The steam should be sufficient enough to sanitize the floor and it's 1/2 the price of the spinscrub ($70) AAAND.. I've come up with the idea of adding a few drops of essential oil to the water to get a lovely scent while cleaning. Bissell sells eucalyptus mint demineralized water but.. it's like $9 for 32oz or some such nonsense. No need for that I'm sure. Just a small bottle of essential oil will probably last 1/2 a year for this purpose.
Probably a great option for new moms too, with little crawlers on their hands.
Then, for the actual carpet, I'm wanting a new rug shampooer. Like, a real mac daddy one. I think I found it in this sweet ride - The Hoover Platinum Max Extract

@ $320 It's a little pricier than most other carpet cleaners but this one has a 6 yr warranty (others, typically just one) it has 2 rows of scrubbing brushes, plus side brushes to get really close to walls, and it have a dial that lets you control what kind of cleaning you'll be doing (From a light water rinse to a deep spot clean with pure detergent). It also has auto rinse, where it gives the carpet a spray of fresh water on it's backstroke so the carpet isn't left all soapy. It's got a light too and a few other gizmos - which justifies the price for me. I really love carpet cleaning and vacuuming (*typically) so I think my loverly husband needs to let me splurge on my cleaning devices.
Then on to the big kahuna. I want the most badass vacuum on the market. IMO, that would be the Dyson Ball. I want the one for "all floors" so that I can just cover the whole house and then get on with my steaming. The price is not for the faint of heart - a whopping 400 bones. But some things, really are worth it.

**edit - now that we have the house, I realize there are many things I need for it in the immediate and therefore, something may have to wait. I've decided to put the Dyson on the waitlist (maybe next mother's day my friend) OR until my first purchase wears out but.. To begin with I will just need a stick vac for downstairs (which is virtually all hardwood) and a regular vacuum for upstairs. So I will be going with the Dirt Devil Accucharge cordless bagless Stick (energy star rated) - $57

and for the upstairs I just want a basic vac, not over $100. I think this Hoover Windtunnel T-series will do the trick, it's highly rated and is $96 with free shipping
